Best method of mass gain for body building?

I am 17 years old now and I have started body building. I go to the gym daily and I have a well planned training schedule and now the only thing missing is the mass gain. I have 2 options: Protein Shakes and Natural Weight Gain. Which is a better choice? Also do protein shakes have any harmful side effects? Is natural weight gain (with the help of consuming high protein foods) a slower process as compared to protein shakes? Thnx for your answers, appreciate it

How is having a protein shake not a form of Natural Weight Gain?
Protein shakes aren’t steroids, you won’t get acne on your back and start slapping women around.
